Overview
A piece of coal usable as fuel that burns longer than a Wood(**wood**) log, making it the more efficient fuel source when you can find it. It can be acquired from coal pans found in villages in the Rails(**level-rails**) level, with each pan containing anywhere from 0 to 3 coal depending on RNG. Coal pans are located on the right side of the third house in every village, so knowing where to look saves you time during the run. Given that coal burns longer, it is worth prioritizing over wood when your fuel supply is running low and the next village is uncertain. Fuel management is one of the core skills in the Rails level, and coal is one of the key resources that can make or break a run. It is not guaranteed in every village so do not count on it always being there.
